Technology and Workplace Communications - Introvert Whisperer
Introvert Whisperer / Technology and Workplace Communications - Introvert Whisperer Technology and Workplace Communications There are all types of new technology in the workplace, but one of the areas of business most impacted by new advances is intra-office communication. A plethora of software programs has been created to make employee communication more effective than ever before. Now coworkers can ping ideas back and forth rapidly, sharing images, files and screenshots to make collaboration effortless. Too much technology in the workplace can have a distracting effect, making it difficult to focus and tempting to waste time. But on the whole, office communication has seen remarkable improvements over the last few decades thanks to technological advances. Office Communicationâs Changes For The Better When you can quickly get in touch with someone anywhere in the world, it speeds up the pace of business. Especially for companies with multiple office locations, itâs crucial to be able to send a question and receive an instantaneous answer even if youâre in different time zones. Businesses can rapidly implement new projects and respond to client needs without communication delays. New office communication tools also save money. While weâve long had the option of placing a phone call to a branch or client in a different country or state, the price of a long-distance phone call was a significant deterrent. With Skype, instant messaging clients and other options, itâs feasible to exchange quick messages back and forth all day long from across the globe without spending any more money than the price of an internet connection. This also opens up possibilities for employees to work from home or stay connected while they are traveling. Millennials At Work Digital communication is second nature to the millennial generation, who have grown up with computers and the internet as commonplace features of their lives. Even ignoring the other benefits to new communications technologies, itâs necessary for companies to adapt and provide these tools to attract fresh, young talent. According to a survey conducted by Microsoft, 93 percent of millennials polled responded that modern technology was one of the most important aspects of a workplace. Best Internal Communications Tools With an exponentially growing list of options, choosing the best programs to use for office communication can be tricky. It helps to select software that employees may use outside of work and already have familiarity with, such as Google Hangouts and Skype. In general, itâs important to look for options with these general qualities: Mobile friendly - so that employees can check in while traveling or not at their desks Versatile - enabling the sharing of text, voice, videos, and files Easy to use - although millennial employees are experienced with many forms of digital communication, you donât want to choose anything that will have too steep a learning curve for older employees Above all, remember that thereâs no one size fits all communication tool. Make several available, and inform your team about the best times to use each one. Despite the power of texting clients and instant messaging programs, there are still plenty of circumstances when only a phone call or a face to face meeting will do. Adding Complex Fractions
Adding Complex Fractions If an order pair (x, y) of two real numbers x and y is represented by the symbol x + iy [where i= (-1)] Then the order pair (x, y) is called a complex number (or an imaginary number). Here x is called the real part of the complex number and y is called its imaginary part. Addition of two complex numbers is also a complex number. The sum of two complex numbers can be expressed in the form A + i B Where A and B are real. Let z1= a+ib and z2= c+id be two complex numbers (a, b, c, d are real). Then the sum of the complex numbers =z1+z2 =a+ib+c+id =a+c + i(b+d) =A +iB Where A= a+c and B= b+d and are real. Therefore addition of two complex numbers will give a complex number. Example:- Add the following two complex fractions. (4+3i)/2 and (4-3i)/4 Solution: - (4+3i)/2 + (4-3i)/4 = [2(4+3i) +(4-3i)]/4 =(2*4 + 2*3i + 4 3i) / 4 =(8 + 6i + 4 3i) / 4 =(14 +3i)/4 =(14/4) +(3/4)i =(7/2) +(3/4) i Therefore after adding complex fractions we got an another complex fraction. Example 2: - Simplify 1/ (x+iy) + 1/ (x-iy) Solution: - 1/ (x+iy) + 1/ (x-iy)= [(x+iy) + (x-iy)]/ (x+iy)(x-iy) =(x+iy+x-iy)/ [(x)^2 (iy)^2] =2x / (x^2 i^2 *y^2) =2x/ (x^2 +y^2) (since i^2= -1)

Rules for Integers
Rules for Integers Integers are numbers which include all the positive and negative numbers and dont include fractions. Integers are denoted by Z. There are different rules which are applied to integers. Mentioned here are some useful rules applied for integers. Add/ subtract Integers: If the numbers have the same sign add the numbers and keep the sign. If numbers have different signs, subtract them and keep the sign of the integer with greater absolute value. Multiply/ Divide Integers: If the numbers have the same sign then the answer has a positive sign. If the numbers have opposite sign then the answer has a negative sign. Example 1: Find the solution for 3 [ 2 + (6 - 10) ]? Solution: Given is 3 [2 + (6 - 10) ] integers with different mathematical operations. Start with the inner bracket (6 -10) = -4 This gives 3 [2 + ( 4)]. Now 3 [ 2 4 ] = 3 [ -2 ]. Multiplying the integers with opposite signs gives 3 * - 2 = -6. Hence the solution to the question is -6. Example 2: Find the solution for 5 [ 7 + (12 - 15) ]? Solution: Given is 5 [7 + (12 - 15) ] integers with different mathematical operations. Start with the inner bracket (12 -15) = -3 This gives 5 [7 + ( 3)]. Now 5 [ 7 4 ] = 5 [ 3 ]. Multiplying the integers with same signs gives 5 * 3 = 15. Hence the solution to the question is 15.
What to Look For in Your Medical School Search
What to Look For in Your Medical School Search The following piece was written by Anubodh Sunny Varshney. He is a Dallas Fort Worth tutor for Varsity Tutors and current medical student at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Attending interviews at multiple medical schools isnt just for you to sell yourself; its also a valuable opportunity for you to gather some key information about different institutions all across the country. Below are some factors to think about when youre comparing these medical schools. Class size The size of your classes can range from the 50s up to the 250s each year. Small classes tend to build a more cohesive group and may allow for more personal interactions with faculty. However, large classes may bring the opportunity to make more friends who are similar to yourself, and in no way rule out the ability to build relationships with faculty. Think about whether or not you want to be in a more intimate environment versus a more traditional academic setting. Location The location of a school will affect your personal life, finances, clinical exposure, and many other factors. Be sure to weigh this heavily and think about your personal preference for an urban vs. suburban vs. rural location. Pre-Clinical Curriculum Many schools use a pre-clinical curriculum that falls somewhere on a spectrum between problem-based learning (PBL) and traditional lectures. PBL involves working through patient cases in a small group setting with faculty. This requires significant background reading and research to learn all of the aspects of the case. Evaluations usually involve a component of participation assessed by small group faculty as well as exams, though this can vary. This is considered a more active learning style, and suits many students well. In contrast, a lecture-based curriculum involves what most students are used to in college. Lectures are delivered and students are expected to take notes and do outside reading as necessary in order to better understand the material. Evaluations are usually via written exams. This style suits students who excel at comprehending and understanding material more passively. In reality, most schools now have a component of both PBL and lectures in varying fractions. Its important to understand that no matter what the curriculum, all schools must cover the minimum amount of material you need to take the USMLE Step 1 after your pre-clinical years. Also, realize that your score on this exam is one of the most significant factors taken into account when evaluating your residency application. So, be sure to look for a curriculum that will help you learn the best, not a curriculum that claims to be less rigorous. In the end, youll have to learn all of the material needed to move into your clinical years, so there are no shortcuts regardless of the curriculum. Hospital system During your clinical years, your goal will be to build the foundation of skills and knowledge you need to be a physician. In addition, you must have a wide exposure to medicine so you can decide your future career path. So, be sure to look out for schools where you will be provided with ample volume, autonomy, and variety in patient care. As a general rule, schools affiliated with more types of hospitals (private, public, government, etc.) tend to give students a broader exposure to medicine. Also, higher volume hospitals tend to allow students greater autonomy in evaluating patients. Student life This encompasses things like facilities, opportunities to be involved in extracurricular activities, and overall student well-being. Be sure to look at schools student centers and see what they offer (gyms, multipurpose rooms, study areas, etc.). Also, most schools will have numerous student groups. Be sure to look for schools that already have groups that align with your interests, or that are flexible in having students start new groups. Most importantly, be sure to speak with several current students on your visit and ask them how they like their medical school experience. Their opinions are your most valuable tool in getting an insider view at a particular school. Check out Sunnys tutoring profile. Gamifying the Classroom to Improve Academic Performance
Gamifying the Classroom to Improve Academic Performance Improving Academic Performance Gamification is one way teachers are getting students to pay attention. Because no one student is exactly the same, a number of different teaching styles and methods have been developed â" this includes applying game dynamics, mechanics, and frameworks into the classroom. Although there have been a number of studies on how gamifying non-game settings impacts students, one result is clear: gamification can make learning more fun and memorable. The three main points of gamification have been identified as motivational âaffordancesâ (the opportunities the actual activities give the subject or the mechanics of the game), the psychological outcome (the resultant change in feeling about an activity during and after the activity), and the behavioral outcome (the change in behavior following the gamified activity). Lee Sheldon, an Assistant Professor at Indiana University at Bloomington reported that his application of gamification in the classroom was a success. He renamed student presentations âquests,â taking tests were âfighting monsters,â writing papers were âcrafting,â and letter grades were âexperience points.â As a result, Sheldon found that his studentsâ average grade improved one full letter grade. One analysis on gamification found that the four dynamics and concepts found in game design that were most successful in motivating students to learn were - Freedom to Fail: Rather than focusing on an irreversible final grade, students are encouraged to experiment and take academic risks through the concept of having multiple âlivesâ or allowing them to start over from their most recent âcheckpoint.â This gives students to opportunity to take chances with decision-making and be exposed to consequences. Students can then focus on the process of learning, instead of just their final grade. Rapid Feedback: Similarly to a game, continual feedback to learners can also motivate students. Battling a boss in a game using the many skills acquired provides immediate feedback to the player on whether or not they qualify for the next level. This can be achieved in the classroom through self-paced exercises, visual cues, frequent question-and-answer activities, a progress bar, or carefully placed comments by non-player characters. Progression: Categorizing information to improve student focus mirrors the âlevelsâ found in game design. Additionally, creating high low points to grab attention also mimics the interest curve students may experience when playing a game. Progression also includes requiring students to incorporate lower order thinking skills into the first stages of a class and then progressing to require higher order thinking skills as they âlevelâ up. This helps students realize they need the knowledge acquired from past stages in order to arrive at the highest order thinking skills. Storytelling: There have been numerous studies on how using storytelling elements can increase student attention and retention of information. Storytelling elements include the use of characters, emotion, and other descriptors to help students visualize a lesson. By creating moments of surprise or humor, for example, students are more likely to be captivated and remember the lecture. Several successful cases of gamifying the classroom have been reported in recent years. One case is of Clifford Lampe, an Assistant Professor at the School of Information at the University of Michigan. He applies gamification to his 200-student lecture class by providing students with choices, rapid feedback, collaborative processes, and competition. Students also have the option to âchoose their own adventureâ by selecting assignments, although higher level assignments are not available until they have been âunlockedâ by completing lower level assignments. Lampe has concluded that gamification has improved his studentâs motivation and retention. Another Assistant Professor, Dr. Carman Neustaedter from the School of Interactive Arts Technology at Simon Fraser University found that creating a scoreboard with studentsâ class ranking in real-time provided the rapid feedback he needed. Each student also earned a rank title, such as âArtistic Internâ or âGrand Master Speculative Designer.â Neustaedter found that the scoreboard has increased studentsâ m otivation and sparks healthy competition. Beyond the classroom, gamification has also been incorporated in other non-game settings. Road contractors in 2014 implemented musical grooves on Route 66 to encourage drivers to obey the speed limit. The language-learning app DuoLingo also uses gaming techniques to make what could be a mundane lesson fun. Despite the many case studies that demonstrate gamification in the classroom can be successful, it must be noted that not all elements of a game are equally motivating to each student. Providing differentiated instruction for students not only means gamification, but also includes other methods of teaching. We can say say:up to my eyesup to my neckup to my earsover my headin work so all references to part of parts of the body.Im swamped (like sinking under the weight of the work that I have to do) Im snowed in or snowed under (youre disappearing under the weight of the work)Im over my headIm tied upIm engagedI have too much work to doIve lots to do/a lot of work to doMy plate is fullso lots of nice expressions in which you can say that Im busy and remember to subscribe to my channel and as always join us on our web page www.englishl essonviaskype.com.
